WANSyncHA, a High Availability Solution with Automatic Failover
XOsoft, a leading provider of business continuity and high availability and disaster recovery solutions for disaster recovery, takes high availability to the next stage. Based on its acclaimed WAN-based WANSync business continuity platform, WANSyncHA boosts availability even further with application-aware, automatic failover, even across multiple IP networks.
WANSyncHA builds on the WANSync platform's ability to maintain fully functional replicas of complete database and application servers. These synchronized servers may be local to the organization, but may also be maintained remotely, with real-time replication carried out over the WAN. Should a server fall prey to unexpected failure or be brought down for maintenance, a synchronized replica, regardless of where it is located in the world, will automatically and instantaneously be brought on-line to maintain high availability, with no need for any manual intervention.
WANSyncHA Server provides seamless global availability for application servers of any type. In addition, a set of dedicated, application-specific WANSyncHA solutions provide industry-standard application servers with tailored, automatic failover-backed global availability. These solutions include the WANSyncHA Exchange , WANSyncHA SQL and WANSyncHA Oracle high availability solution for Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL and Oracle, respectively.
WANSyncHA High Availability Solution Lets You Just Keep Working
Single-Network Automatic Failover
In a single segment scenario, a WANSyncHA master (M1 in the diagram below) is assigned a secondary IP address. This IP address is used for replication with a replica server (R1 in the diagram below). In case M1 fails, it will retain the secondary IP address, while its primary IP address is reassigned to R1, along with M1's host name. Complete service availability is achieved, as users are automatically and immediately switched to server R1. The only configuration required is to disable server M1 from automatically updating DNS tables, which is usually done by default.
Cross-Network Automatic Failover
When master and replica do not reside on the same IP network, IP address transfer is impossible. WANSyncHA overcomes this limitation through intelligent manipulation of DNS lookup. Should the master server fail, WANSyncHA will route client applications to a replica server with an alternate DNS name, again providing users with continuous application availability through automatic failover. The only configuration this scenario requires is that client stations be set up to work with servers by name, rather than IP address. If Active Directory Integrated DNS is in use, preventing WANSyncHA from updating DNS tables, the master server itself will be registered as a "user" on the network, with proper ACL (Access Control Lists), and failover to the replica will be performed using standard password protected security procedures.

WANSyncHA Exchange - Exchange High Availability / Disaster Recovery Solution
With the amount of business being conducted via email, organizations cannot afford for access to email applications, like Microsoft Exchange, to be interrupted. Should an Exchange server be unavailable, either through planned or unplanned downtime, an organization will most likely face severe losses in productivity and profitability. For information-reliant 24/7 operations, merely being able to restore service by resurrecting downed servers is not enough, and continuous application availability is a must.
A mission-critical platform for MS Exchange replication to multiple high availability replicas over LAN or WAN is the only way this goal can be achieved.
Exchange High Availability with Automatic Failover
XOsoft, a leading provider of continuous application availability software, provides a solution tailored to handle the specific nuances of MS Exchange replication, high availability and disaster recovery. XOsoft has developed WANSyncHA Exchange for Exchange Disaster Recovery, which boosts the availability of Microsoft Exchange through high availability replicas that enable automatic failover, even across different IP networks. XOsoft's Exchange Failover suite provides the protection mandated by corporations today.
WANSyncHA Exchange for disaster recovery secures entire Exchange servers, backs them up and constantly synchronizes them with either local or remote replicas in real time - MS Exchange replication. Our patented soft installation avoids system shutdowns and does not require that Exchange services be restarted, ensuring that lost productivity is not an issue. Intelligent, binary differentiation-based algorithms allow WANSyncHA Exchange to continuously carry out byte-level updates, even over intermittent WAN and slow TCP connections. Should the Exchange server fail for any reason or have to be shut down for maintenance, a WANSyncHA Exchange high availability replica, either in the office, branch office or halfway around the globe, will instantaneously and automatically take its place to provide true business continuity and continuous application availability.

WANSyncHA Exchange - High Availability at Work
With automated Exchange server component discovery and MS Exchange replication setup, installation and configuration is easy. The WANSyncHA Exchange service running on the master Exchange server maps and retrieves all Exchange database components, including storage groups and associated public and private information stores, system directory and log files.
Once paths to Exchange database components have been retrieved, synchronization with WANSyncHA Exchange replicas commences, creating up-to-date copies of the Exchange server being secured. WANSyncHA Exchange tracks all incoming changes to master Exchange server files (at the file system level), and replicates these changes in real time. Transactional integrity is maintained constantly, as updates are applied to replicas in the exact same order in which they were written to the master Exchange server.
Exchange High Availability Server Failover / Failback
Should the master Exchange server become unavailable, service will automatically fail over to the MS Exchange replication site. WANSyncHA Exchange monitors all critical events, including global server failure and Exchange service failure, and either automatically or on command, initiates failover to a standby replica site. Failover may include IP take-over (if the standby site is implemented within the same network segment) or DNS redirection, when the remote standby site is located on a different IP network (cross-network failover).
Exchange High Availability Single-Network Failover / Failback
In a single segment scenario, a WANSyncHA Exchange master (M1 in the diagram below) is assigned a secondary IP address. This IP address is used for replication with a replica server (R1 in the diagram below). In case M1 fails, it will retain the secondary IP address, while its primary IP address is reassigned to R1. This procedure is fully automated, and involves the following events on the replica:
- IP take-over
- Startup of Exchange services
- Mounting of Exchange databases
- Updating of user records in Domain Controller with new Exchange server name
Complete service availability is achieved, as users are instantaneously and automatically switched to the replica server (R1). Once the master server is back online, reverse replication (from replica to master) is automatically initiated, ensuring that the master is fully up-to-date when users are switched back to it.

Exchange High Availability Cross-Network Failover / Failback
When master and replica do not reside on the same IP network, IP address transfer is impossible. WANSyncHA Exchange overcomes this limitation through intelligent manipulation of DNS lookup. Should the master server fail, WANSyncHA Exchange will route client applications to a replica server with an alternate DNS name, again providing users with complete and seamless Microsoft Exchange service availability.
