Storage Architecture Solutions
| Xiotech | | Hewlett Packard

HP is a technology solutions provider to consumers, businesses
and institutions globally. The company's offerings span IT infrastructure,
personal computing and access devices, global services and imaging and
printing for consumers, enterprises and small and medium businesses.
The
HP SAN is a key component of the HP Adaptive Enterprise. It is the network
element of the entire storage architecture, providing the infrastructure
platform to deliver complete, open network storage solutions
The HP StorageWorks SAN provides industry leading connectivity platforms
to deploy, manage and operate today's demanding networked storage enterprise
environments. It delivers the physical connectivity that, when combined
with the other elements of HP's solution, brings into reality the well
established benefits of network storage: significantly reducing the Total
Cost of Ownerships (TCO) while maintaining high returns on investment
(100-500%). Most important however, are the ways SANs impact competitive
advantage by improving the business agility and capacity to react to today's
business challenges.
This release of the HP StorageWorks SAN significantly increases the flexibility
and agility of the fabric infrastructure, by enabling modularity in SAN
deployments. This is accomplished via subnet routing technology. Modular
designs significantly increase SAN scalability and ROI on storage assets
by enabling more extensive device sharing and consolidation levels, without
sacrificing stability and service levels.
Through the SAN island isolation provided by subnet routing, customers
can share devices like arrays and tape libraries between SANs without
increasing stability risks, and service levels.

Tape System: DLT/SDLT tape drives
HP StorageWorks DLT VS80 Tape Drive
The
HP StorageWorks DLT VS80 Tape Drive offers a reliable mid-ranged DLT based
backup solution. With its 80 GB capacity, the DLT VS80 provides a high
capacity, high-speed tape drive, for the mid-range customer at a valued
price. The DLT VS80 Tape Drive has a transfer rate of 6 MB/sec compressed,
and can store up to 21 GB of compressed data in an hour, a full 80 GB
in less than 4 hours. With its economical price and low cost of HP media,
the tape drive provides outstanding value to customers. (Native capacity
40 GB, uncompressed transfer rate 3 MB/s)
The DLT VS80 Tape Drive comes with numerous features such as HP StorageWorks
Library and Tape Tools (L&TT) for troubleshooting and TapeAlert for
monitoring the drive and media. It is compatible with native Windows,
VERITAS, BrightStor, TapeWare and other backup software applications.
Additionally, the DLT VS80 Tape Drive is read and write compatible with
the HP StorageWorks DLT1 and can read DLT 4000 Media. DLT VS80 formatted
media written by the VS80 Tape Drive can also be read by HP StorageWorks
SDLT 220 and 320 Tape Drives, providing for an easy upgrade path to higher
capacity and performance drives in the future. The DLT VS80 provides investment
protection and its proven reliability allows customers to have a peace
of mind.
Features & benefits
- Affordable: This drive has a price that allows midrange customers
to benefit from DLT technology, the industry standard that offers
reliability and scalability.
- Half Height Technology: For customers who are losing space inside
the server, the DLT VS technology is half height compared to the
full height DLT technology. This leaves more room for other options.
- Scalability: The HP StorageWorks DLT VS80 Tape Drive has backward
read compatibility (BRC) with the DLT 4000 and the DLT 1 media.
